BRIGHTEST
BARDS COMPETE FOR $5000 IN THIRD ANNUAL
WILLIAMSBURG
LIVE SONGWRITER COMPETITION
Brooklyn, N.Y. – Culled from
a batch of over 500 hopeful entrants, 150 unique songwriters
from across the country have been selected to compete
for $5000 in cash prizes in Jezebel Music's 2006 Williamsburg
Live Songwriter Competition (WLSC2006),
the third year of this talent-infested event.
To be held at many of Williamsburg, Brooklyn's most
respected venues, WLSC2006 runs over
eight consecutive nights from Sept. 15-22. Gleaned from
establishments like Atlantic Records, TimeOut New York,
TVT Records, Island/Def Jam and ASCAP, the contest's
judges will lend a discerning ear each night to determine
the best singer-songwriter in the competition.
Festivities culminate with the semi-finals at Galapagos
at 8 p.m. on Sept. 21 and the finals at North Six at
8 p.m. on Sept. 22. Tickets for these two evenings are
currently on sale, available through TicketWeb.com.
The Lucky Cat, Laila Lounge, Matchless Bar, the Trash
Bar and Union Pool will all play host to the first round
of the WLSC2006, Sept. 15-20, each
night free and open to the public. Twenty-five contestants
on each of these nights will be whittled down to three,
with the leading 18 to perform at the semi-finals at
Galapagos. Nine of these will grace the stage at North
Six, where they are allowed to perform their entry song
plus a song of their choosing. The top entrant will
go home with a check for $4,000, with second and third
place earning $750 and $250, respectively.
"The Williamsburg Live Songwriter Competition is
swarming with phenomenal songwriters playing rock, folk,
punk, alt-country and every other genre under the sun,
bringing together an authentic, raw, gritty and creative
culture of musicians-," says Gabriel Levitt, president
of Jezebel Music. "At its core, it’s a rewarding
celebration of aspiring and serious musicians and the
art of song.”
The WLSC2006's proud sponsors include
